Our Story
Matcha Zanmai was born in the heart of Montréal in May 2019, founded by Yukiko Sekiya and her partner Hank. Together, they set out on a mission to introduce the depth and beauty of traditional Japanese tea culture to the local community.
Originally from Tokyo, Yukiko is a classically trained pastry chef with a passion for fine desserts. Her creations—like matcha mille crêpes, handmade mochi, and soft-serve matcha ice cream—bring a delicate balance of tradition and innovation to every bite.
With Hank’s Montréal roots and Yukiko’s Japanese heritage, Matcha Zanmai is built on three guiding principles: customer satisfaction, authenticity, and family. Their café is not just a place to enjoy matcha; it’s a space where culture, craftsmanship, and connection come together.
